Generate Report Definitions
insights allows you to generate report definitions as a quick start option for Reports Wand without the need to write or understand any SQL. This provides you with instant insights into your E-Business Suite data.
The generated definitions include additional columns displaying user friendly values rather than hard to understand database id’s making your data easier to use and understand. Additional insights report definitions and enrichment information can be added or updated later using a report definition package.
Reports Wand insights report definitions can be generated from the following:
Select a Generation Type, and click on Next to continue.
Prior to the generation of Oracle E-Business Suite Views we recommend running Gather Schema Statistics on the APPLSYS schema.
Oracle E-Business Suite Views
Standard E-Business Suite database views give you easy access to the data you routinely query in the standard Oracle forms and reports.
Eligibility
Views for all application modules with a status of Installed or Shared, and not described as Obsolete can be created as insights report definitions. Database views containing XML elements or used as business view templates are not eligible for generation.
You can choose to generate all or only individual report definitions for an Oracle Application Module. Select the Generation Option and click Next to continue.
Select the Oracle Application Module required and click Next. The number of views eligible for generation is displayed in brackets after the application name.
The generation process can be intensive. It is recommended to be run during times of low system usage when generating all the eligible definitions for an application module. Network performance can also affected the generation so we recommend ensuring a reliable local connection.
If you chose Single Report Definition, a list of eligible definitions is presented. Select the required definition(s) and click Finish.
Once the generation process is complete a generation summary totaling the number of the report definitions generated for the application module is displayed.
Click Close and proceed to Assign Reports.
- Regenerating report definitions will replace the previously generated version and require you to Assign the report again.
- If you would like to modify an insights report definition, and preserve the changes, you must create a copy of the report definition by Importing the generated definition, changing the ID and Name columns and then Process the create action.
- Some E-Business views may require specific initialization to be performed before returning results when executed. In these cases a PL/SQL Stored Procedure may be have to be added to the report definition after generation.
insights Report Definition Packages
Each package is shipped as a .zip file and contains multiple report definitions. These packages include additional information for enriching the definitions generated from the Oracle E-Business Views.
The insights report definition package file is included in the main Wands installation file that was downloaded and installed.
Use the Explorer 
to select the name and location of the Package file on your computer and then click Finish to proceed with the generation enrichment process.
Once the process is complete a summary totaling the number of the report definitions enriched is displayed.
When enriching Oracle E-Business Views only the report definitions already generated will be updated.
