Wands Intellicast
The Wands products can be directly integrated with Intellicast to create and publish dashboards using the reports already defined in Reports Wand and GL Wand. This allows you to share Wands based content with a wider audience, on a broad selection of devices.
The integration is provided by installing a Wand Services component onto the Intellicast server. Select Wands Intellicast from the Insightsofware downloads page for the latest version of the Intellicast integration component including the install guide.
For more information on Intellicast and building dashboards see the Intellicast knowledge base.
Wands with Intellicast Security
There are some differences between the Oracle e-Business Suite data security that is applied in Wands for Oracle (GL Wand and Reports Wand) and Intellicast that is important for companies to understand.
GL Wand natively applies Ledger Security and Security Rules based on the user’s selected Responsibility and profile. Companies have the option of using an “All Ledgers” Responsibility which is a GL Wand specific construct that allows users to pull GL balances that span multiple ledgers. In this scenario, Security Rules are not applied. When GL Wand reports are imported into Intellicast, the All Ledgers ‘Responsibility’ is used, thereby bypassing Oracle EBS Security Rules. Report Designers can add Ledger Security by either specifying the Ledger ID in the GetBalance functions in GL Wand or by assigning a Ledger ID to a Dashboard in the Intellicast Designer.
Reports Wand natively applies Oracle Multiple Organization Access Control (MOAC), also known as Operating Unit security, based on the user’s selected Responsibility. When users are building dashboards based on Reports Wand definitions in the Intellicast Designer the report definitions are selected in the context of a Responsibility and the MOAC/Operating Unit security for that data set will be based on the chosen Responsibility. Intellicast Designers can optionally add additional security to limit the data displayed in a specific dashboard. They can also limit access to dashboards by user.
Product | Server Connection | Ledger (Ledger id) | Security Rules | Operating Unit (Responsibility) |
GL Wand | HTTP(s) | Applied by default or All Ledgers. | Applied. N/A with All Ledgers. | N/A |
Reports Wand | HTTP(s) | N/A | N/A | Applied. |
ITC – Designer | HTTP(s) | Applied by default or All Ledgers. | All Ledgers therefore N/A. | Applied. |
ITC – Live | HTTP(s) | Applied by default or All Ledgers. | All Ledgers therefore N/A. | Applied. |
ITC – Offline | HTTP(s) | N/A | N/A | Enforced for end users by dashboard. |
Intellicast Access Security Overview
There are two types of access security which can be applied in Intellicast
Dashboard security
Access rights to view dashboards can be granted to individual users and/or groups of users at the dashboard or the dashboard folder levels. This means that when a user logs in they will only see dashboards to which they have been granted access by their administrator.
Data security
Data can be secured in Intellicast by adding mandatory filters to datasets based on the current user. So, for example, a sales dashboard could be restricted so that one user could see all the data from one region whereas another user would only see data from a second region whilst a sales manager could see data from both regions.
