Add a Custom Drilldown Column
Before you can add a custom drilldown column to the Wands configuration, you must derive the SQL statement in the correct format and ensure that it works correctly by testing it in a utility like Toad or SQL Developer. The instructions for creating valid custom drilldown column SQL can be found under the main Custom Drill Columns section.
Once you have a working custom drilldown column SQL statement, follow the instructions below to add it to the Wands configuration. For the purposes of this example we will show you how to add two Accounts Receivable Adjustment columns to the subledger SLA drilldown report. But the principles are the same for the other drilldown reports that support custom drilldown columns.
Add the Custom Column Definition
Create the custom columns in GL Wand by perform the following actions:
- Click the button on the toolbar.
- Select the applicable drilldown report.
- Add the column and populate the prompt, name and SQL. The Prompt can be a user friendly name for the column. The name is the technical field name. The SQL is the subquery that you created to return the additional column data.
You must quit GL Wand and log on again (or change responsibilities) to force the new column to load into your session.
Add the Custom Column to a Drilldown Report
Run the drilldown report that you wish to add your new custom drilldown column to. In our example that is the subledger SLA drilldown report. Edit the template layout:
Find the new custom field in the “Custom” Category and add it to the layout by dragging it onto the report:
Optionally save the template for future use.
Test the Custom Columns
Go back to the journal level and rerun the drilldown to the AR transaction. The custom columns are now populated in the subledger report.
Formatting
To ensure the correct formatting is used when your custom columns are returned, format any existing data rows using normal Excel formatting functionality. When you re-execute the drilldown the formatting will be applied to the new data.
